The cleaning point for these systems is 2-3" after the belt leaves the head pulley. This is often where the belt is flattest, making it a convenient cleaning surface. It also provides some pulley resistance without pinching the belt between the blade points. The installation at this site may be hampered by obstructions. If this is the case, a hold-down roll may be necessary to smooth out the belt farther away from the head pulley and re-create the desired 2-3" location. Secondary belt systems are usually full-belt width. Because of the wear characteristics of the commonly used urethane blades, it's best to match material path on the primary belt cleaner. Tungsten carbide blades in secondary and tertiary cleaners wear differently, therefore they should be close to full belt width. The belt cleaner and installation location are equally as important as the primary cleaner when it comes to the effectiveness of these systems. Routine maintenance including optimum tension is also essential for maximizing belt cleaning performance and maintaining efficient maintenance planning. Which Material Should I Use for My Blades?
Polyurethane and carbide are the two most prevalent materials for conveyor scraper blades. Depending on your needs, one of these two options is typically a good fit. Blades T2 T2 scraper blades are constructed of polyurethane and are used as primary scraper blades. They can be used on new, worn, or torn belts and have a huge wear area. T2 blades are excellent for extending the life of a conveyor belt and are ideal for installing T blades on a new conveyor belt. There is a natural shift from carbide to polyurethane incorporated into the blades as the blades and belt wear. Blades T2C T2C blades are carbide-based primary scraper blades. They are extremely wear-resistant and are best suited to fresh or well-worn belts. When opposed to polyurethane blades, T2C blades have a smaller contact area and are hence more successful at breaking through some carry-back coatings. Carbide blades are typically utilized on fresh or in good condition belts.
